授業科目の内容

This class aims to introduce students to different facets of British culture while further developing their reading and writing/summarising skills, listening skills, and speaking/presentation skills. The assigned textbook is divided into four parts, and these examine British society as 1) a source of diversity, 2) a centre of communication, 3) a foundation of social institutions and beliefs, and 4) a manifestation of common sense. Using the topics developed in the textbook, students will be asked to answer questions asked by the instructor, answer various exercises in the textbook, and participate in group discussions/presentations in English. Students must work independently outside class hours and come to class after reading the assigned materials.

受講上の要望、または受講上の前提条件

・予習として、各回のReading Passageを事前に読んで、用語の意味等を確認、理解しておくこと（約60分）。
・Reading Passageを事前に読んできていることを前提に、授業では教員が英語で読解の質問をする。分からないところは、英語と日本語、両方の言語を使って補足説明する。
・毎回、授業の最後の10分間を使って、Reading Passageを英語で要約する練習問題を小テストとして行う。答え合わせは、次回の授業の冒頭で行う。
・授業中で行う作業（読解問題・英文要約・グループディスカッションやプレゼンテーション）は成績の重要な要素となるため、授業には必ず出席すること。
