授業科目の内容

In this course we will focus on paragraph writing. We will cover how to brainstorm in order to come up with a topic to write on, how to write a topic sentence, how to write the 'body' of the paragraph in a way that provides logical support for the assertion in the topic sentence, as well as how to write a proper concluding sentence for the paragraph. In addition, students will be given instruction on how to use transitional words and phrases in a way that will allow them to write stylistically coherent paragraphs. Students will also be given instruction on how to write a paragraph that is thematically unified and logically consistent. Students will have the opportunity to write several types of paragraphs, including an 'opinion paragraph' and a 'comparison/contrast' paragraph. Finally, students will be given instruction on the techniques of paraphrasing and summary writing, techniques which are very important in academic writing.
