授業科目の内容

In this course the focus will be on the practice of what is known as 'extensive reading' in English. Unlike intensive reading in English, in which a small amount of text is analyzed in detail, 'extensive reading' involves reading a large amount of text without focusing excessively on the details. Students will be asked to keep a 'reading log', or a 'reading diary' in which to record what they are reading. Although students will be asked to choose 'academic' reading material, beyond that restriction they may choose whatever book they like, and they are free to change books at any time. Students will be asked to read 30 minutes every day, 5 days per week, and to keep track of how many minutes they are reading and how many pages they are reading in their reading log. During class students will be asked to give presentations on what they are reading, as well as the vocabulary they learned. Some time will also be given to in-class reading. The course will be conducted in English and Japanese.

Attendance: 20%
Reading log: 40%
Presentations: 40%

テキスト（教科書）※教科書は変更となる可能性がございます。

Students will be choosing their own reading material for the reading log assignment. Therefore a textbook will not be necessary.
Students can either borrow books from the library or buy books to read from a bookstore.

受講上の要望、または受講上の前提条件

Students will be given the option of giving their presentations in either Japanese or English, but either way the memorization of a short piece of English (one sentence) will be required.
The course will be conducted in both Japanese and English.
